Decking

We know a deck is never just a deck. It's an extension of your home, your personal escape back to nature.
Our decking range gives you the flexibility to pick a range and design that suits your lifestyle.

Choosing your decking
Because decks are fully exposed to the outdoor elements, you must choose a wood that is fit for the purpose.

HARDWOOD DECKING
Hardwoods are naturally very durable and offer excellent dimensional and structural stability. They are
ideal for decks with greater loading and high level of wear and tear. There are certain types of hardwood,
particularly those used in marine construction that are ideal for use in decking, especially if you are thinking
of incorporating a hot tub. Typically hardwoods tend to be more expensive than softwoods as they take
longer to grow; they also offer different aesthetic characteristics in look and colour.

SOFTWOOD DECKING
Softwood is widely used in decking application and is sourced throughout Europe. Species such as Western
Red Cedar and Southern Yellow Pine are also used for decking being virtually clear of knots. The durability
will be enhanced by the use of pressure treatments involving chemicals and if maintained can last for up to
thirty years. Softwoods typically grow more quickly and therefore cost less than hardwood, however clear
softwoods are similarly priced as hardwood.

MODIFIED TIMBER DECKING
Timber that has been modified using either heat treatment or acetylation process has become very popular
over the past five years. The treatment processes used, offer a more environmental form of turning timber
that would normally be classed as non durable in external use, to very durable, with a life span in excess of
30 years. The products marketed under this category are Thermowood and Accoya.

COMPOSITE DECKING
Alternatively for a low maintenance, hard wearing option particularly suitable for commercial applications
you can choose composite decking. Our branches stock the American made Trex composite decking. Only
Trex decks are wrapped in a high-performance shell that resists fading, staining, rot and splitting better
than anything else out there, ensuring your Trex patio will perfectly complement your garden for years to
come.
